A proposal, reviewed specification and activated rule are different stages.
LET’S PICTURE IT
A published building plan is not the same as a completed renovation.
SEE IT FOR YOURSELF
Link blocks, then see what an edit breaksStep 1 / 4
The first toy block records Maya sending Leo three units. A1 is an illustrative fingerprint label, not a real cryptographic digest.
The first toy block records Maya sending Leo three units. A1 is an illustrative fingerprint label, not a real cryptographic digest.Block two stores a reference to A1. A new page is connected to the prior page through its fingerprint.Block three refers to B2. The linked history now has three pages, each building on the previous one.Editing block one changes its toy fingerprint to X9. Block two still refers to A1, so its parent link is invalid and the downstream continuation needs revalidation.

Read the document’s scope
An EIP can concern core protocol rules, interfaces or another category. Its title alone does not establish what clients or applications must change.
Check status and dependencies
Draft, review and final stages communicate process context, but deployment also depends on the relevant network upgrade. Follow referenced dependencies and fork conditions.
Compare client behavior and tests
Protocol changes require consistent implementations and test vectors. A prose proposal is one part of the evidence, not the whole deployed system.
Write time-bound claims carefully
When teaching an evolving feature, name the specification and avoid promising an activation date without current authoritative confirmation. Separate design motivation from current rules.
Map the protocol concept
proposal → review and specification work
→ implementations and tests
→ agreed fork activation
The sequence is simplified; check the actual proposal context.
A conceptual model. Exact fields, limits and processing rules must be checked against the intended network fork.
QUICK CHECK · NO PRESSURE
Is every published EIP an already activated protocol rule?
Proposal publication and network activation are distinct.
