Validator lifecycle overview

Joining, participating, exiting and withdrawing are separate stages.

LET’S PICTURE IT

Registering for a relay race, running and collecting the deposit afterward are different steps.

A node receives a proposed transaction or block-related message. Receipt is not the same as accepting its claims.

Start with registration context

A validator’s deposit and credentials are processed under consensus rules. Submission does not mean immediate active participation.

Follow activation and duties

An active validator can have proposal and attestation duties. Correct behavior, inactivity and slashable behavior have different consequences.

Separate exit from withdrawal

Exiting active duties does not necessarily make all funds immediately available. Queue, credential and withdrawal processing rules still apply.

Avoid fixed timing promises

Network conditions and fork rules affect lifecycle timing. Use the current specification and appropriate operator information for real planning.

Map the protocol concept

registration → activation eligibility → active duties
→ exit processing → withdrawal eligibility and processing

A conceptual model. Exact fields, limits and processing rules must be checked against the intended network fork.

QUICK CHECK · NO PRESSURE

Are exiting active duties and receiving a withdrawal the same instant by definition?
