Why balances differ across networks

Matching address text does not mean shared account state.

LET’S PICTURE IT

Apartment 12 in one building and apartment 12 in another share a number, not the same furniture.

A node receives a proposed transaction or block-related message. Receipt is not the same as accepting its claims.

Each chain tracks its own history

A balance is derived from the rules and history of a particular network. Seeing an address on Ethereum mainnet and a layer 2 does not make the two balances identical or automatically synchronized.

Contracts can differ too

The same address on two networks may have different code or no deployed code on one of them. A token symbol can also be reused by unrelated contracts. Verify network and implementation rather than copying assumptions across chains.

Bridged representations add mechanisms

A bridge may lock or burn assets on one side and release or mint a representation on the other. Designs vary. The resulting asset’s security and redemption properties depend on those mechanisms, not on its familiar display name.

Diagnose with context

Check the intended chain, address and asset identifier before concluding that a transfer disappeared. An offline address checker cannot query balances or prove a cross-network recovery path. Learn the network model first, then consult the relevant official explorer or documentation.

QUICK CHECK · NO PRESSURE

Can the same address have code on one network and no code on another?
