A wallet address is not a username

An address identifies an account, without a built-in password-reset desk.

LET’S PICTURE IT

A nickname on a website can be reassigned by its operator. An Ethereum address follows cryptographic and protocol rules instead.

An address is public receiving information. It is not the private key that authorizes actions.

Animated local teaching model. No wallet, RPC or live blockchain data. Some labels and hashes are abbreviated for readability.

Read the complete identifier

A typical displayed Ethereum address has 0x followed by forty hexadecimal characters. It identifies an account on a particular network, not necessarily a named human. A display name or contact label can come from separate software.

There is no universal reset email

For a traditional key-controlled account, losing the required authorization material can mean losing access. A contract wallet might implement its own recovery policy, but that must be part of its actual configuration.

Names are a separate layer

A naming service can associate a name with an address under its own rules. Resolution may vary with the record, network and time. A familiar-looking name does not excuse checking the destination and request.

Formatting is a limited check

Our address tool calculates an EIP-55 checksum. It does not verify the recipient’s identity or control of the address. Use a trusted channel to confirm where a real payment should go.
