Backups and recovery basics

Understand the exact recovery ingredients before a device is lost.

LET’S PICTURE IT

A spare key is only useful if it opens the right door and can still be found when needed.

An address is public receiving information. It is not the private key that authorizes actions.

Know the recovery model

Different wallets use different backups: recovery phrases, hardware-device recovery, contract-owner policies or other mechanisms. Do not assume instructions for one product apply to another. Follow the wallet’s official documentation.

A password may protect only one installation

An app unlock password can protect local encrypted storage while a recovery phrase restores keys independently. Some designs require an additional passphrase or account metadata. Losing a required component can make a seemingly complete backup insufficient.

Recovery changes the risk of a copy

Anyone with enough recovery material may be able to regain the same account access. Calling something a backup does not make it less sensitive than a working key. Avoid ordinary messages, unfamiliar forms and public screenshots containing secrets.

Keep practice away from real secrets

This site does not test recovery phrases or derive real private keys. You can learn the model from fictional examples. A backup plan should include how the actual account is recovered, not only whether a phrase was once written down.

QUICK CHECK · NO PRESSURE

Is a local wallet password always sufficient to restore an account on a new device?
