Layer 2 and rollups

Do more work elsewhere, with verification tied back to Ethereum.

LET’S PICTURE IT

Instead of writing every calculation on the main classroom board, a group works on a worksheet and submits the information needed to check its result.

The first toy block records Maya sending Leo three units. A1 is an illustrative fingerprint label, not a real cryptographic digest.

Why add another layer?

Ethereum block space is limited. A layer 2 can process many transactions and use Ethereum for settlement and data availability, depending on its design. The aim is to spread certain costs over more activity while keeping a security relationship with layer 1.

Two common rollup families

Optimistic rollups use mechanisms for challenging incorrect claims. Validity rollups use cryptographic proofs to show that state updates follow their rules. Implementations differ, so the label alone does not describe every trust assumption or withdrawal experience.

The network matters

An address can look identical on several networks while balances and contract deployments differ. A bridge connects systems under particular rules and risks. Sending to the right address on the wrong network can be difficult or impossible to recover. Always inspect the chain and asset.

Fees need context

Layer 2 fees can include execution and data-related components. Our gas calculator only models the specified execution fee; it is not a complete layer 2 fee estimator. Read the documentation for the network you actually use before moving funds.

QUICK CHECK · NO PRESSURE

Can the same address have different balances on different networks?
