Layer 1 versus layer 2

Execution can happen on another system while settlement relates back to Ethereum.

LET’S PICTURE IT

A group can do work on a worksheet and submit information to the main classroom board.

The first toy block records Maya sending Leo three units. A1 is an illustrative fingerprint label, not a real cryptographic digest.

Layer 1 supplies a base context

Ethereum mainnet provides its own execution, consensus and data rules. Calling it layer 1 describes its role relative to systems built around it, not a guarantee that every connected application has identical security.

Layer 2 adds an execution environment

A rollup can process transactions in its own state and use Ethereum for settlement and data-related mechanisms. Users interact with a different network context, even when addresses and ETH labels look familiar.

Security depends on the design

Proof systems, data availability, upgrade controls and operator behavior can all matter. The layer 2 label is a starting category rather than a complete trust analysis.

Switching a wallet is not moving assets

Selecting another network changes the state view. Deposits, withdrawals or other bridging operations require separate actions and assumptions. Learn those mechanisms before interpreting a missing balance.

QUICK CHECK · NO PRESSURE

Does changing the wallet network automatically bridge an existing balance?
