A separate network lets people practice protocol and application behavior.
LET’S PICTURE IT
A rehearsal stage can exercise the performance without being the real ticketed show.

Receive, check and share across independent nodesStep 1 / 4
A node receives a proposed transaction or block-related message. Receipt is not the same as accepting its claims.
A node receives a proposed transaction or block-related message. Receipt is not the same as accepting its claims. The node checks the relevant authorization and protocol rules. Popularity does not make an invalid state transition valid.Valid candidate data can propagate to peers. Connections and timing differ, so there is no perfect simultaneous worldwide view.Peers validate under the same protocol rules. This illustration is about verification and propagation, not a complete proof-of-stake consensus algorithm.

Testnets have their own state
A testnet is a separate chain environment with its own accounts, balances and deployments. A familiar address format does not make its state the same as Ethereum mainnet.
Practice can avoid real asset use
Developers and learners can test interactions with test assets. The environment is useful for experimentation but may differ from production in configuration, activity and available services. A successful rehearsal does not prove production safety.
Secrets still deserve care
Reusing the same key across environments can connect risks. A phrase used for real assets should not be casually entered into test tools simply because the selected chain is a testnet.
This site starts even earlier
Our local tools need no testnet ETH, wallet or provider. You can study units, ABI bytes and simple execution models before using any live network. Later testing should use an appropriate purpose-built setup.
QUICK CHECK · NO PRESSURE
Does selecting a testnet make it safe to disclose a reused mainnet recovery phrase?
The secret can control accounts beyond the network currently selected.
