Hardware wallets still need careful review

Protecting a key does not automatically explain a request’s meaning.

LET’S PICTURE IT

A secure pen can sign the wrong document just as effectively as the right one.

An address is public receiving information. It is not the private key that authorizes actions.

Animated local teaching model. No wallet, RPC or live blockchain data. Some labels and hashes are abbreviated for readability.

Separate key custody from intent

A hardware device can protect signing material while still producing a valid signature for the request you approve. If the request is harmful but authorized, secrecy of the key alone does not prevent its effect.

Inspect the trusted display

What you can verify depends on the device, software and request format. Check the network, recipient, value and permission scope where supported. A vague or unfamiliar prompt deserves explanation rather than automatic approval.

Contract calls can carry permissions

A zero-value call might authorize token spending or change control settings. A typed message can have later effects. Do not decide solely by whether a screen shows an immediate ETH transfer.

Recovery material is another boundary

A site claiming the device needs a phrase-based repair can be an attempt to bypass its key isolation. Follow official recovery procedures and keep actual secrets out of learning tools.

QUICK CHECK · NO PRESSURE

Can a harmful authorization be validly signed while the private key remains secret?
