Events versus actual token behavior

A log is a record emitted by code, not a universal guarantee of balance movement.

LET’S PICTURE IT

A printed receipt can describe an action, while checking the underlying register answers whether the expected accounting effect occurred.

A token implementation may update balances and emit its standard Transfer event. State and the emitted record are related but distinct.

Events are useful interfaces

Token standards define expected event behavior so applications can build histories. A normal implementation emits logs alongside relevant state changes. This makes logs valuable for indexing and user interfaces.

An untrusted contract can construct bytes

The existence of a familiar event signature does not make its emitter trustworthy. A malicious contract can emit misleading logs or use the same signature with a different effective story.

The decoder checks shape

Our ERC-20 Transfer decoder interprets three supplied topics and a data word under the standard common layout. It neither authenticates a token nor queries state to confirm a claimed transfer.

Match evidence to the conclusion

For an actual balance or permission claim, identify the contract, network, implementation and state. Logs add context but should not be treated as a standalone economic safety certificate.
