Identify the owner, spender, token and network behind the number.
LET’S PICTURE IT
A collection permit is meaningful only when you know who issued it, who may use it and what it allows them to collect.
SEE IT FOR YOURSELF
Build a transfer call from typed fieldsStep 1 / 4
The standard transfer interface takes an address and a raw integer amount. This diagram uses address one and amount one hundred.
The standard transfer interface takes an address and a raw integer amount. This diagram uses address one and amount one hundred.Keccak-256 of the canonical signature supplies the first four bytes. The transfer selector is a9059cbb.An address is twenty bytes. Standard ABI encoding adds twelve zero bytes on the left to fill one thirty-two-byte word. The integer one hundred is hex 64, left-padded in word one. Selector plus two words produces sixty-eight bytes of standard calldata.

Allowance has several coordinates
allowance(owner, spender) asks a particular token contract about the spending permission between those addresses. The same pair on a different token or network can have a different result.
The result uses raw token units
A returned 1000000 is not automatically a million whole tokens. Format it using the correct decimal context, while preserving the original integer for exact comparisons.
A snapshot is not a permanent promise
An owner can change permission, a spender can consume it under the implementation, and transactions can be ordered differently before your next action. A read describes a chosen state view.
Interpret the permission’s scope
An allowance is not ownership of all the owner’s assets. It concerns the token and authorization mechanism being checked. Other token standards and signed permission systems can have different interfaces.
QUICK CHECK · NO PRESSURE
Does one token’s allowance automatically apply to every token held by the owner?
Permissions belong to specific contracts and mechanisms.
