A naming system can map a readable name to records under its rules.
LET’S PICTURE IT
A contact book can associate a memorable label with a delivery address, while the entry still needs to be current and correct.
SEE IT FOR YOURSELF
From a public address to a verified signatureStep 1 / 4
An address is public receiving information. It is not the private key that authorizes actions.
An address is public receiving information. It is not the private key that authorizes actions. The local signing system uses secret authorization material. It produces a signature; the private key is not sent along with it.A verifier checks the signed request under the account’s rules. A valid signature does not by itself prove that the action is safe.Balances belong to network state. A wallet is an interface and signing system, not a box containing coins.
Animated local teaching model. No wallet, RPC or live blockchain data. Some labels and hashes are abbreviated for readability.
A name can resolve to data
ENS provides a system for names and associated records, including address information. A resolver supplies the relevant record under the naming system’s mechanisms.
A name is not a fixed eternal address
Ownership, expiration conditions and record updates can affect resolution. Do not assume a name always points to the same destination simply because you used it once.
Displayed names need careful interpretation
Reverse-name displays and forward address records have their own checks. A friendly label alone should not substitute for verifying the intended recipient and network context.
Our local checker does not resolve names
The address tool expects a hexadecimal address and checks its format. It makes no network request for ENS data, so it cannot tell you a name’s current record or owner.
