An emergency stop can prevent damage while giving its operator power to interrupt service.
SEE IT FOR YOURSELF
From a public address to a verified signatureStep 1 / 4
An address is public receiving information. It is not the private key that authorizes actions.
An address is public receiving information. It is not the private key that authorizes actions. The local signing system uses secret authorization material. It produces a signature; the private key is not sent along with it.A verifier checks the signed request under the account’s rules. A valid signature does not by itself prove that the action is safe.Balances belong to network state. A wallet is an interface and signing system, not a box containing coins.
Animated local teaching model. No wallet, RPC or live blockchain data. Some labels and hashes are abbreviated for readability.
Define the emergency scope
A pause can affect deposits, withdrawals, upgrades or only selected paths. State exactly which actions stop and which users can still make progress.
Identify control and recovery
Review who can pause, unpause and replace the controlling role. A lost or compromised authority can make the protection itself a liveness risk.
Consider governance timing
Timelocks, multisignatures and voting introduce their own assumptions and response delays. No governance label alone establishes decentralization or safe operation.
Test emergency transitions
Enter and leave the paused state under realistic pending actions. Assert that accounting remains consistent and recovery paths work as documented.
Work through the boundary
document:
who can pause
what stops
what remains available
who can recover
what happens to pending actions
A simplified local review scenario. The example establishes a question to test, not a guarantee of production safety.
QUICK CHECK · NO PRESSURE
Does an emergency pause introduce an authority assumption?
Someone or some governance process controls the pause behavior.
