Read compiler errors

Find the actual failing location before changing unrelated code.

LET’S PICTURE IT

A precise error report points to a broken step rather than declaring the whole recipe useless.

This example begins with count zero and a request to call increment(). No real contract is deployed.

Animated local teaching model. No wallet, RPC or live blockchain data. Some labels and hashes are abbreviated for readability.

Separate errors and warnings

A compilation error prevents successful output for the failing build. Warnings can still identify meaningful risks even when artifacts are generated.

Read the full diagnostic

Use the file, source range and message together. The highlighted token may reveal a type mismatch whose cause begins earlier in the expression.

Reduce the example

Create the smallest local source preserving the problem. Remove unrelated logic while retaining the exact compiler version and relevant settings.

Confirm the intended correction

A change that silences the compiler can still change behavior incorrectly. Recompile and run the test representing the original intention.

Define the test

Example diagnostic category: incompatible types
check declaration → expression → intended conversion
then compile and test the intended behavior

Test plans are framework-neutral unless labeled as complete Solidity or JavaScript. Use a local test environment and no real funds.

QUICK CHECK · NO PRESSURE

Does removing a compiler error prove the intended behavior is correct?
