Multiproofs at a glance

Several leaves can share intermediate reconstruction work.

LET’S PICTURE IT

Two routes can reuse part of the same map instead of carrying duplicate directions.

This example hashes UTF-8 A, B, C and D. The displayed hashes are abbreviated, and the tree uses the playground’s sorted-pair convention.

Animated local teaching model. No wallet, RPC or live blockchain data. Some labels and hashes are abbreviated for readability.

Identify shared branches

Separate proofs for neighboring leaves can repeat sibling nodes. A multiproof supplies a coordinated set of leaves and helper nodes to reduce duplication.

Follow the specific algorithm

Multiproof formats may include flags or queue rules. They are not universally a simple concatenation of individual proof lists.

Validate shape and ordering

The verifier must check the expected relationship among leaves, proof nodes and control metadata. Leaf order and complete-tree assumptions can matter for a chosen implementation.

Reject empty-set shortcuts

An application should explicitly require the intended number of claims. A low-level multiproof routine’s acceptance of a special empty case is not automatically valid application authorization.

Follow the proof model

Individual proofs may repeat parent CD.
A coordinated multiproof can share reconstruction nodes.

Use the exact builder/verifier format, including its ordering and flags.

Binary examples use the stated local playground convention. They are not Ethereum account or storage trie proofs.

Is every multiproof just two individual proof arrays joined together?
